Anni Downs is an Australian Artist who has been designing whimsical patterns and books under the banner of Hatched and Patched since 1995. She is an avid hand sewer with stitchery and appliqué being her forte, using quirky images and a soft, almost vintage palette.
Anni was born and raised in Oberon, a small country town on the East side of Australia. She has always had a love of art and sewing, and after moving to the city and working as a Graphic Designer for some years, she and her husband felt the urge to move back to the country. Anni found time here to develop her own style and, with the help of the local quilt shop, started her own pattern business.
Now, 15 years later, Anni has 8 self-published books and over 100 patterns, and has recently been asked by Kansas City Star Quilts to publish a book with them. Eight years ago she opened a patchwork shop in a gorgeous old Inn where she spends much of her time working with two of her greatest joys - fabric and friends. She and her husband have two children, Samantha and Tim, plus a cat, Munch, and a newly acquired dog, Tillie. Whenever Anni isn’t working (playing???), she spends her time with her family or taking long walks around town with her head in the clouds thinking up her next design. Her first fabric range ‘My Favorite Things’ encapsulates what Anni loves most – soft warm colours along with her quirky images of home, best friends, family, garden, chocolate, shoes, and of course sewing!!
