  • Farm to Market

Crane Designs’ latest collection Farm to Market was inspired by a lazy Sunday afternoon drive through rural upstate New York during the growing season. Along the drive, we viewed beautiful old farms with great barns majestically sitting among the rolling hills.

This picture, perfect rural setting was surrounded by fields of corn and a large variety of produce. The produce that was ready to be picked and taken to the local farmers market. We also spotted a large rooster strutting around with his flock of hens and some baby chicks. Once I returned home, I started sketching. I created a whimsical drawing of a colorful rooster pulling a wagon of produce with a flock following along to the market.

This collection started with a wool applique project, also called Farm to Market. We adapted this wool applique project into a fabric collection. This new collection is just brimming with an abundance of striking coordinates that are waiting to be-sewn into smart projects. These projects could range from wall hangings, quilts, to kitchen coordinates. Imagine table runners, place-mats or curtains with valences incorporating the fun border design or the rooster and hens off to market. We topped off the collection with an easy to sew apron panel. We hope you are inspired to create a few beautiful quilted treasures from the Farm to Market collection.

  • Tarrytown

Inspiration for "Tarrytown" by Michelle Yeo came from her love of antique quilts and the fabrics used to create them. Many of the designs in the collection are reproduced and updated for today’s market. They originated from a ‘Puss in the Corner’ quilt made in Southeast Pennsylvania, Lancaster County, Circa 1840. The floral toile print, used in the border of the antique quilt, has been reproduced in its original toile coloration. This same print is also shown in three updated multi-colorations as well. These fabrics can be used within blocks, setting squares and borders. Also, they are perfect for cutting into beautiful flowers and sprays that could be used creatively in quilts featuring Broderie Perse appliqué.

There are seven stunning companion prints offered in coordinating colors that will enhance any quilt. The fabric collection was named ‘Tarrytown’ after the beautiful, historic town north of Manhattan in the Hudson Valley area of New York state where my husband was born.
